Use Block Breadcrumbs To Move Through Nested Sections In The Web Editor
Learn how to use the block breadcrumb path in the Web Editor to move between parent and child blocks, clear the current selection, and identify the matching section on the canvas.
This guide explains how to use the block breadcrumb path inside the Admin Web Editor.
Use it when you want to:
- move between nested blocks more quickly
- jump from a child block back to its parent block
- understand where the selected block sits in the page structure
- clear the current block selection and return to a broader page view
Before You Start
Open the Web Editor from System > Platform Customization.
Then select a block on the page canvas or from the Outline panel.
The breadcrumb path becomes useful when a block is selected and the page contains nested sections.
What The Block Breadcrumb Path Does
The block breadcrumb path shows the position of the selected block inside the current page structure.
It helps you understand how the selected block fits inside larger parent sections.
This is especially useful when:
- the page contains several nested containers
- you are working inside a complex section
- you want to move up one level without searching through the whole page
Use Home To Clear The Current Selection
The breadcrumb strip includes a Home item.
Choose Home when you want to clear the current block selection.
This helps when you no longer want to focus on one specific block and want to return to a general page-level view.
Use Breadcrumb Items To Select A Parent Or Child Block
The breadcrumb strip also shows the current block path as a hierarchy of items.
Choose any breadcrumb item when you want to select that block directly.
This helps you move between related levels of the same section more quickly, such as:
- from a small child block back to its parent container
- from one selected level to a broader layout block
- from a deeper nested area to a higher section in the same path
Hover Over A Breadcrumb To Find The Matching Block
When you hover over a breadcrumb item, OpenMirai highlights the matching block on the canvas.
This helps you confirm exactly which section belongs to that breadcrumb before you select it.
Use this when several nested areas look similar and you want to avoid selecting the wrong block.
Understand How The Breadcrumb Path Updates
The breadcrumb path changes when you select a different block.
OpenMirai updates the breadcrumb strip to reflect the selected block's current nesting path.
The order of items shows the structure from higher-level parent blocks down to the currently selected area.
When To Use Block Breadcrumbs
Block breadcrumbs are most useful:
- when editing deeply nested sections
- when moving from a child element back to a parent layout block
- when the Outline panel and canvas contain many similar sections
- when you want a faster way to follow the structure of the selected block
What To Do Next
- use the breadcrumb path when you need to move up or down a nested section path
- open the Outline panel if you want a full structure view for the page
- continue editing once the correct block is selected
- save the page after finishing your changes
