Use Undo And Redo In The Web Editor

Learn how to use undo and redo controls in the Web Editor to step backward or forward through recent page edits, understand when the buttons are unavailable, and review changes more safely while editing.

This guide explains how to use Undo and Redo in the Admin Web Editor.

Use these controls when you want to:

  • reverse a recent page edit
  • bring back a recent change after reversing it
  • compare different editing steps while adjusting a page
  • correct a mistake without manually rebuilding the section right away

Before You Start

Open the Web Editor from System > Platform Customization.

Then open the page you want to edit in the builder workspace.

What Undo And Redo Do

Undo and Redo help you move backward or forward through recent edits while you work on a page.

Use Undo when you want to return to the previous edit state.

Use Redo when you want to reapply the next available state after moving backward.

These controls are useful when you are testing layout, text, styling, or block changes and want to review the result step by step.

Where To Find These Controls

Undo and Redo appear as quick editing controls inside the Web Editor.

Depending on the current builder layout, you may see them with other page-editing tools such as save, preview, layout width, and canvas controls.

Use Undo To Step Back Through Recent Changes

Choose Undo when you want to remove the most recent change from the current editing session.

This is useful when you:

  • moved the wrong block
  • changed content by mistake
  • tested a layout change and want to go back
  • want to review the earlier version before deciding what to keep

Use Redo To Restore A Reversed Change

Choose Redo when you want to move forward again after using Undo.

This helps when you step back too far and want to restore the next available edit state instead of repeating the change manually.

Understand Disabled Undo And Redo Buttons

Undo and Redo can appear disabled when there is no available step in that direction.

For example:

  • Undo can be unavailable when there is no earlier edit state to return to
  • Redo can be unavailable when there is no next available state to reapply

If a button is disabled, no action is available from that control at that moment.

When To Use Undo And Redo

Undo and Redo are most useful:

  • while testing several layout changes in a row
  • while comparing two recent versions of the same section
  • after editing text, block settings, or styling and wanting to review the effect
  • before saving, when you want to confirm which version of the page to keep

Good Practice While Editing

Undo and Redo help with recent changes, but you should still save the page after you are satisfied with the result.

If you are making larger changes, it is a good idea to:

  • review the page after each important step
  • use Undo and Redo to confirm the version you want
  • save once the page looks correct

What To Do Next

  • use Undo or Redo while reviewing recent changes in the editor
  • preview the page after important edits
  • save the page once you are happy with the current version
